Emilio Isgrò. Canto Napoli

Known for his distinctive language of erasure, Isgrò has transformed words, texts, images and memories into works that open up new meanings. His practice does not simply remove meaning: it suspends it, hides it and allows it to emerge again, inviting visitors to imagine what remains between the visible and the invisible.

In this exhibition, the artist encounters Naples through a journey that brings together art, writing, memory and identity. The “canto” evoked by the title becomes a poetic way of narrating the city: a voice made of traces, absences, signs and layers of meaning, in dialogue with the history and heritage of Capodimonte.

Erasure is the most recognizable gesture in Isgrò’s work: a radical and poetic intervention applied to books, encyclopaedias, maps, newspapers and images. For the artist, erasing does not mean destroying, but creating a new way of reading.

Through this language, the exhibition explores the relationship between word and image, memory and oblivion, personal narrative and collective history. Naples becomes not only a subject, but a living material: a city to be read, re-read and listened to.

Set within the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, the exhibition creates a dialogue between contemporary art and historical heritage. Isgrò’s works interact with one of Naples’ most important cultural sites, offering a new perspective on both the museum and the city.

The result is an intense and refined exhibition experience, where the power of words, even when erased, becomes a tool to tell Naples in a different way.
