Festa dei Gigli di Barra 2026

For an entire month, the neighbourhood will come alive with a rich calendar of events, culminating in the most spectacular moment of the celebrations: the Ballata dei Gigli, taking place on Sunday 27 September from 9:00 am.

Co-organised by the Municipality of Naples, the festival is one of the most authentic expressions of the local community, bringing together faith and tradition, identity and a sense of belonging. Its cultural significance has earned it official recognition as part of Campania’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Once again, the leading role will be played by the associations organising the events and by the eight majestic Gigli: towering structures made of wood and papier-mâché, standing more than 25 metres high and weighing around 4.5 tonnes, carried on the shoulders of large teams of bearers.

The traditional “ballate” and “girate”, performed to an unrelenting musical rhythm, create a unique spectacle of strength, passion and collective participation.

The festival will draw to a close on Monday 28 September, with the Ballata dei Gigli delle donne e dei giovani – the Gigli procession performed by women and young people – through their respective neighbourhoods, starting at 8:00 pm.

Once again this year, thousands of people are expected to gather in the neighbourhood for the festival’s main events, which over the years have also become a major tourist attraction.
