The Colour of Mimmo Jodice
The Museum of the Treasure of San Gennaro pays tribute to Mimmo Jodice with The Colour of Mimmo Jodice, an exhibition curated by Sylvain Bellenger.
The exhibition showcases the artist's only body of work created in colour: more than 40 photographs dedicated to masterpieces of seventeenth-century Neapolitan painting, including several previously unseen images. The photographs were taken in the 1980s during Jodice's visits to the exhibition The Civilisation of Seventeenth-Century Naples at the Museum and Royal Wood of Capodimonte.
Focusing on works by Caravaggio, Jusepe de Ribera, Luca Giordano, Artemisia Gentileschi and other Baroque masters, the photographs isolate details, faces and pictorial fragments, transforming them into suspended, contemporary visions. This rare body of work has been restored and brought back to public view through a major conservation project promoted by D'Uva.
The exhibition also marks the first major retrospective tribute to Mimmo Jodice following his passing. It unfolds throughout the galleries of the Museum of the Treasure of San Gennaro, creating a dialogue with the museum's historic collections through an immersive exhibition design created especially for the occasion.
The exhibition is presented with the patronage of the Campania Region and the Municipality of Naples.
