Three monumental boats in the heart of Naples tell stories of journeys, memory and encounters between cultures.
From 21 September to 18 November 2026, Piazza Municipio hosts Voyageur, a monumental installation by Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama, curated by Vincenzo Trione as part of the Napoli Contemporanea 2026 programme.
The work consists of three large wooden boats, approximately 5, 7 and 8 metres tall, built using traditional Ghanaian designs and techniques. Partially embedded in the ground, the boats transform the square into a space for reflection on the relationship between journeys and belonging.
Symbolically facing the Mediterranean, the installation weaves together stories of migration, memory, cultural exchange and hope, creating a dialogue between West Africa and Naples, a city whose identity has always been closely connected to the sea.
An opportunity to discover how contemporary art can transform a public space into a place of encounter and reflection.
